  7. 1  Introduction
  8.  
  9. Have you ever found yourself scrambling for a pencil and paper 
  10. even though you are sitting right in front of a PC loaded with 
  11. word processing, graphics, and other software?  Ironic, isn't it?  
  12. It's still often easier (or quicker) to jot something down by 
  13. hand than to use your computer.  Well, not any more.  PinUp Notes
  14. is a Windows program that provides instant access to the creation,
  15. editing, and printing of brief notes containing not only text but
  16. graphics (or bitmaps) as well.
  17.  
  18. PinUp Notes is a shareware program so you are welcome to try it 
  19. out free of charge.  However, if you like it and decide to 
  20. keep it on your system, you are obligated to register your copy 
  21. by paying $5.95 U.S. to the author at the address given below.  
  22. Registration entitles you to legally use this and all future 
  23. releases of PinUp notes, notification of future releases, and 
  24. technical support.

  26. 2  Usage
  27.  
  28. To use PinUp Notes, run the accompanying executable file 
  29. PINUP13.EXE from the Program Manager, File Manager, WIN.INI, 
  30. SetUp group, or other Windows launch mechanism.  Upon doing so, 
  31. a PinUp Notes icon will appear at the bottom of your screen.  
  32. Double click the left mouse button on the icon to create a 
  33. text note.  Double click the right mouse button to create a 
  34. bitmap note.  Both types of notes may also be created from 
  35. the icon's system menu.
  36.  
  37. Text notes are used to enter and store text from the keyboard.  
  38. Simply select the note and type in.  Bitmap notes are used to 
  39. copy and store regions of the screen.  To do this, select Edit
  40. from the bitmap note's system menu, then choose the Grab submenu
  41. item.  Use the mouse to outline the rectangular region to be 
  42. copied.  The image will be stretched to fit into the dimensions 
  43. of the note window.  
  44.  
  45. With PinUp Notes version 1.3, bitmap notes may now be annotated.
  46. Simply click the left mouse button on a bitmap note (and hold
  47. the button down) to draw on the note. The color and thickness
  48. of the annotation may be changed by selecting the Options item
  49. on the PinUp Notes system menu.
  50.  
  51. Both types of notes may automatically be given a date/time stamp
  52. when created.  Select Options from the PinUp Notes system menu
  53. to turn this feature on/off.  Both types of notes may be minimized 
  54. to pushpin icons.  Green pushpins represent text notes and red 
  55. pushpins represent bitmap notes.  Both notes' captions may also be 
  56. changed to reflect their contents.  To do this, select Edit from 
  57. the note's system menu, then choose the Caption submenu item.  
  58. A dialog box will appear in which you may type the new caption.  
  59.  
  60. The remaining items on the Edit submenu provide note editing
  61. capabilities.  Cut and Copy move data from the note to the Windows
  62. clipboard.  Paste copies data from the clipboard to the note.  For 
  63. text notes only the currently selected text is affected, while for 
  64. bitmap notes the entire bitmap is copied or pasted.

  66. To print a note, select Print from the note's system menu then 
  67. choose the Print submenu item.  The note will automatically be 
  68. printed on the default Windows printer.  Choose the Setup submenu
  69. item to view or modify the configuration of the printer.  Text 
  70. notes are printed in text mode while bitmap notes are printed 
  71. in graphics mode.  The size of a printed bitmap may be modified 
  72. by selecting one of the Scale items on the Print submenu.  For 
  73. example, after selecting Scale 2x, bitmap notes will be printed 
  74. at twice the normal (1x) size.

  76. Upon exiting Windows, any notes that are still open will be saved 
  77. in a file named PINUP13.NTS in your Windows directory.  The notes 
  78. will then be automatically restored the next time PinUp Notes is 
  79. executed.  Loading PinUp Notes from your SetUp group or WIN.INI file 
  80. makes this feature particularly useful.  Notes may also be saved or
  81. loaded from the PINUP13.NTS file by selecting the Save Notes or
  82. Load Notes items from the PinUp Notes system menu.

  84. Notes may also be archived in a file named PINUP13.ARC.  Archived
  85. notes are not automatically loaded or displayed, but may be retrieved 
  86. when needed.  This is useful for backup purposes and for reducing the 
  87. number of icons and system resources utilized.  To save and load notes 
  88. to and from the archive, select Archive from the PinUp Notes icon's 
  89. system menu.  A dialog box will appear showing the currently loaded 
  90. notes on the left and the archived notes on the right.  Select a 
  91. note from either list and then the appropriate Save or Load button.  
  92. You may also double click on the note to copy it to the other list.

  94. One last tip...clicking left once on the PinUp Notes icon brings 
  95. all existing notes to the top of any other windows currently 
  96. displayed on the screen.

  100. PinUp Notes is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, 
  101. either express or implied.  No liability is assumed from any 
  102. damage or loss resulting from the use of this program.  You are 
  103. free to copy and share PinUp Notes with others, as long as the 
  104. two files PINUP13.EXE and PINUP13.TXT are distributed together 
  105. and not modified in any way.

  107. Shareware distributors are permitted to include PinUp Notes with 
  108. their distributions, but any fee charged by the distributor DOES 
  109. NOT cover the $5.95 registration fee that you the user owe to 
  110. author if you decide to keep and use PinUp Notes.  Businesses, 
  111. Government agencies, and other organizations may purchase a site 
  112. license by contacting the author for additional information.

  171. 6  Other Shareware Programs
  172.  
  173. Two other shareware programs are currently available from the 
  174. author.  
  175.  
  176. SysUse is a very popular performance monitor program for Windows 
  177. 3.0 and 3.1. It monitors your computer's CPU, memory, system 
  178. resources, and disk space, all within one window (or icon if 
  179. minimized.)  It is also very efficient, taking very little CPU 
  180. time away from your other applications.
  181.  
  182. WinFind is a file search program for Window 3.1 only.  You may
  183. search for files based on file name as well as file contents.
  184. You may restrict the search to certain subdirectories and file
  185. name extensions.  Once found, files may launched with the
  186. application with which they are associated.  The last 10 files
  187. launched are also maintained on a menu for quicker launching
  188. in the future.

  191. and other sources as PinUp Notes, and also cost $5.95 each.  Please
